The Secondary Materials and Recycled Textiles Association (SMART), the largest textiles recycling association in the world, has announced that its 2025 Fall Conference will take place in Phoenix from 28–30 September.
As the premier gathering for professionals across the global textiles reuse and recycling industry, the SMART Fall Conference is set to deliver a dynamic programme centred on innovation, collaboration, and knowledge-sharing. The event is designed to help members and partners navigate the rapidly evolving landscape of sustainable textiles.
With a legacy spanning more than 80 years, SMART represents companies involved in the reuse, recycling, and trade of textiles and related secondary materials. Its members collectively divert millions of pounds of textiles from landfills annually, contributing to environmental conservation and the advancement of a circular economy.
Drew Weinberg, Vice President of SMART, plays a key role in guiding the association’s mission to promote high standards of business practice, environmental responsibility, and international collaboration. Under his leadership, SMART continues to advocate for policies that drive innovation and sustainability in textile recycling worldwide.
SMART’s membership spans textile processors, collectors, thrift industry professionals, and fibre conversion manufacturers. Together, they partner with global supply chains, charities, and municipalities to extend the lifecycle of textiles through collection, resale, and upcycling initiatives. The association also works closely with policymakers to encourage sustainable regulations and practices that support closed-loop systems for textiles.
Through its conferences, educational outreach, and advocacy, SMART continues to shape the future of the industry by promoting circularity — ensuring textiles are designed, used, and repurposed in a continuous cycle that minimises waste and maximises value.
