PANGAIA has released its 2024 Responsible Innovation and Impact Report, offering a comprehensive look at the brand’s progress in sustainable fashion and regenerative design. The report highlights a continued focus on materials innovation, ethical supply chains, and environmental stewardship.

“Progress is ongoing, sometimes imperfect, but always driven by a belief in innovation and the power of collective action,” writes PANGAIA in the introduction to its report. The company emphasises that addressing planetary boundaries requires collaboration across the fashion industry.

Among the year’s most notable product launches is The GAIA Bag, developed using MIRUM®, a 100% bio-based alternative to leather, paired with Climate Beneficial™ verified cotton. Awarded the PETA UK Fashion Award for Best Vegan Bag 2024, it exemplifies PANGAIA’s commitment to regenerative materials. Chelsea Franklin, PANGAIA’s Head of Advanced Concept Design, notes that innovation requires balancing “aspiration with pragmatism, and storytelling with systemic change.”

Other key launches included The Hyperlocal Capsule, a limited collection of 75 hand-painted garments celebrating native UK flora, and the ongoing Hope Tee series, which features biodiversity success stories illustrated on apparel. The Hope Tees integrate Nature Coatings’ BioBlack TX™, a petroleum-free pigment designed to reduce environmental impact. Jane Palmer, CEO of Nature Coatings, commented that PANGAIA is “leading the way in showing how responsible colour design translates into real-world impact.”

Material innovation remained central to PANGAIA’s strategy in 2024. The report notes that 96% of the brand’s material mix was organic, recycled, regenerative, or bio-based. Cotton, animal fibres, bast fibres, recycled and bio-based synthetics, and man-made cellulosic fibres were prioritised, with ongoing efforts to expand regenerative sourcing and bio-based alternatives.

On the environmental front, PANGAIA achieved net-zero Scope 2 emissions, reduced Scope 1 emissions significantly, and continued work on Scope 3 decarbonisation. Water management policies also advanced, targeting reductions in consumption and harmful pollutants across the supply chain.

PANGAIA strengthened its social impact through ethical supply chain initiatives. The brand maintained Fair Wear LEADER status, a recognition of exceptional commitment to improving working conditions and implementing human rights due diligence. The company mapped its supply chain down to Tier 3 and reinforced anti-modern slavery policies, supplier transparency, and worker representation.

Internally, PANGAIA prioritised its team, maintaining a diverse workforce across the UK, Italy, France, and Switzerland. The brand remained a Living Wage Employer in the UK, offered health and wellbeing support, and provided opportunities for professional development. A volunteering day with Heath Hands engaged employees in local conservation efforts, further embedding environmental responsibility into the company culture.

PANGAIA also highlighted philanthropic and collaborative initiatives, including contributions to the Tomorrow Tree Fund, Bee:wild, and industry challenges such as Manufacturing Futures and Techstyle for Social Good. The company participated in the BioCircular Materials Alliance, the Becoming Regenerative research project, and the ELUCENT project, focused on sustainable, plant-based pigments.

Maria Srivastava, PANGAIA’s Chief Impact Officer, concludes the report by recognising both challenges and collective achievements: “The beauty and the power to drive change lie in the strength of collective effort. I am deeply grateful to our partners and team for their shared commitment to making the fashion industry more responsible and forward-thinking.”

The 2024 Responsible Innovation and Impact Report underscores PANGAIA’s role at the forefront of sustainable fashion, demonstrating how material science, ethical practices, and environmental stewardship can intersect to shape a more circular and regenerative industry.
